Advocacy for Female Combat Units

What is a female soldier?

They put their life out of the line everyday, sacrificing to ensure our safety and freedom- these are the men and women of the U.S military. Regardless if it’s the Army, Marines, Navy or Air Force these men and women each devote themselves to a greater cause that only few have the guts and ability to endure. An ongoing debate in the U.S. military for women is the fact that they are barred from most participation in combat roles.  Although many people have different opinions about women being able to serve in combat, the reality is these women understand what they getting into when they honorably sign up to be in the U.S. military. This division of gender inequality is only hindering the effectiveness of the military by not allowing women to fully commit and serve their country.

As of February 2011, 14% of the nation’s armed forces was composed of women, and of the 2.2 million service members who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, an estimated 255,00 have been female personnel. (Bohon 17).  Of those female personnel, 134 have been killed in either Iraq or Afghanistan. (Bohon 17). These women are already putting their lives on the line by being present during a time of war and want to assist their counter partners but are limited by the laws and regulations that prevent them serving in combat roles. We are advocating for women and believe there must be a forced social change on America’s military in order for women can have equality in combat.
